Wonder Woman 2 to Implement Anti-Sexual Harassment Guidelines

Wonder Woman 2 has been announced as the first film that will be implementing the new anti-sexual harassment guidelines set up after last year’s stream of sexual harassment allegations made by women and men in the film industry.
The allegations of sexual misconduct and rape made against Harvey Weinstein during the last quarter of last year were just the beginning. These first allegations opened up the flood gates and many more women and men came out with similar allegations against other well-known names in the industry.
It is apparent that sexual harassment in the work place has gone unchecked for many years but only recently have people voiced their concern and agreed that time is up on this aspect of their professional culture.
The Producers Guild of America’s special task force has been working with Time’s Up and others on a series of anti-sexual harassment guidelines which they made public during the awards ceremonies over the weekend. It was also announced that the Wonder Woman 2 set will be the first to implement these guidelines.
The PGA are taking the allegations made during the last months very seriously and are concerned by the magnitude of the problem. In the guidelines they state that the PGA “is committed to fostering work environments free from sexual harassment” and any other form of discrimination.
Their recommendations include setting up a new system for reporting cases and complaints of sexual harassment while on and off set. People who are victims of unwanted sexual advancements should have a clear way of reporting their concerns and they should be listened to.
There is an urgent need to combat this attitude in the work place. These guidelines are “only the first step in a long process of changing our professional culture”.
People working in the film industry should take on these new anti-sexual harassment guidelines and training “should not just be simply focused on avoiding legal liability, but must be part of a culture of respect that starts at the top”.
You can read the whole list of guidelines on the Producers Guild of America website.
