Vegan milk brand Oatly is facing backlash after a stake was sold to a Trump-linked firm. A £150 million stake was sold to a group of investors led by firm Blackstone.
Blackstose’s CEO is a long-term friend of Donald trump’s and the firm have previously been targeted for having links to deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.
Now the firm own a stake of the Swedish oat milk brand which is considered to be one of the most sustainable non-dairy milk brands.
The deal, which has valued Oatly at over £15 billion, has come under scrutiny and fans of the vegan milk have taken to the internet in an attempt to ‘boycott’ Oatly.
Oatly responded to these comments on twitter saying that although Blackstone was an “unexpected choice”, the investment “will help us expand our sustainable mission and create more plant-based products.”
Oatly also tweeted: “We’re still Oatly, committed to promoting the plant-based movement.”
Other investors in the deal included Oprah Winfrey, Natalie Portman and former Starbucks CEO Howard Scultz.
