There were so many good TV shows to watch in 2022, but 2023 looks like it’s aiming give last year a run for its money. To start off, so many beloved shows have returned with new episodes, including The Mandalorian season 3 and Succession’s season 4 episodes. But there are also a slew of new projects debuting this year, including Netflix’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a must-watch for fans of Bridgerton. It is a limited series drama that serves as both a prequel and spinoff, focusing on the story of a young Queen Charlotte before she rises to power. Golda Rosheuval returns in the role of Queen Charlotte, while India Amarteifio (The Midwich Cuckoos) plays a younger version of her. The series consists of just six episodes, making it a quick binge. It will satisfy your thirst for historical fiction and romance until Bridgerton returns for its third season. Additionally, a fourth season of Bridgerton has been confirmed.
Silo
Silo, a new dystopian drama, joins the ever-growing list of sci-fi series. The world, ravaged by an apocalyptic event, has turned toxic and lethal. Only 10,000 survivors remain, confined to an enigmatic underground silo. No one knows the origins or purpose of this structure, but it is their sole defense against certain death. They follow strict rules for their supposed safety. However, Juliette, an engineer portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson (Dune), seeks answers, both regarding their predicament and the murder of her loved one. In her quest for truth, she unveils a sinister mystery and a web of lies.
Hugh Howey’s novel series of the same name serves as the basis for Silo. Rebecca Ferguson not only stars in the series but also serves as one of its executive producers. The cast includes rapper Common, David Oyelowo (Star Wars Rebels), Iain Glen (Game of Thrones, Titans), Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation), and Tim Robbins (Here and Now).
Class of ’09
Kate Mara (Fantastic Four) and Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) star in this limited series suspense thriller about FBI agents dealing with different changes in the U.S. criminal justice system as the result of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Taking place at three distinct points in time across multiple decades, the show looks at justice, humanity, and choices that can define our paths when it comes to both.
Henry stars as Tayo, a brilliant yet unorthodox agent, and Mara as Poet, an unlikely law enforcement officer who becomes central to one of the most pivotal changes in the system.
The Muppets Mayhem
Everyone loves The Muppets. Relive your childhood with Jim Henson’s furry friends in this comedy musical. The series features Lilly Singh, Tahj Mowery, Saara Chaudry, and Anders Holm, along with the Muppet performers.
In The Muppets Mayhem, Nora (Singh), a music executive, helps Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem revive their music careers. However, navigating today’s music industry proves challenging. The series includes cameos from Paula Abdul, deadmau5, Tommy Lee, Cheech Marin, and Jack McBrayer. The Muppets Mayhem promises a fun-filled watch for the entire family.
Platonic
Seth Rogen (known for The Super Mario Bros. Movie) and Rose Byrne (from Physical) join forces once again with creator Nick Stoller (who previously collaborated with the duo on Neighbors and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising) for a hilarious comedy. The story revolves around two best friends who had a falling out but now come together amidst their own midlife crises.
In the first season, consisting of 10 half-hour episodes, the duo reunites after a heated argument caused their separation. However, things take a turn as their rekindled friendship starts to dominate every aspect of their lives, which might not bode well for either of them.
Star Wars: Visions: Volume 2
Volume 2 of animated Star Wars anthology series Visions didn’t sweep the voting, but did show up on the favorites lists of each social platform. The new volume features nine shorts from nine studios around the globe: El Guiri’s “Sith” from Spain, Cartoon’s Saloon’s “Screecher’s Reach” from Ireland, Punkrobot’s “In the Stars” from Chile, Aardman’s “I Am Your Mother” from the United Kingdom, Studio Mir’s “Journey to the Dark Head” from South Korea, Studio La Cachette’s “The Spy Dancer” from France, 88 Pictures’ “The Bandits of Golak” from India, D’ART Shtajio’s “The Pit,” and Triggerfish’s “Aau’s Song” from South Africa.
The Great: Season 3
Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult star in the series as Russian royalty Catherine the Great and Peter, the son of Peter the Great (played by Jason Isaacs). Peter witnesses Catherine’s attempt to murder him and now must overcome daunting obstacles to salvage their marriage. Meanwhile, Catherine receives a visit from the U.S. ambassador, which invigorates her and prompts her to experiment with democracy.
