U.S. to Give "Specific Asks" to North Korea Regarding Post Summit Timeline

After a historic summit that saw the U.S. President meeting face to face with the North Korean Leader for the first time in years, the U.S. is now said to be presenting “specific asks” to North Korea.
This news comes after the two leaders met to discuss North Korea’s disarment of their nuclear weapons while the US made guarantees on security, saying that the U.S. would stop the joint military exercises with South Korea.
The Guardian reports that an official spoke to a group of reporters on condition of anonymity, saying, “We’ll know pretty soon if they’re going to operate in good faith or not.” The official also added, “There will be specific asks and there will be a specific timeline when we present the North Koreans with our concept of what implementation of the summit agreement looks like.”
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that he will take the lead in making sure that negotiations, saying that he would travel to North Korea “before too terribly long” to make sure that progress moves forward.
As the Guardian reports, hopes are that disarment by North Korea will take place by January 2021.
