The US Department of the Interior approves gas and oil leasing programme within the National Wildlife Refuge in Northern Alaska. The Wildlife refuge is the home to endangered species of polar bears, caribou, and other animals.
The Department has officially announced the start of selling leases to drill for gas and oil in the arctic regions around Alaska. Under the Trump administration, bills have been passed granting energy industries with the permission to have access to these areas.
Environmentalists have been fighting for decades to stop the extension of destroying massive areas in the national wildlife refuge since mineral resources were found there in the 70s. Â Â

Interior Secretary David Bernhardt said that the passing of the bill will make American produce its own energy and create jobs for thousands.
Critics and environmentalists have expressed their opinion on how this will disrupt the Arctic ecosystem and accelerate climate change. The rights of the indigenous people and their habitats who have been living in those regions for centuries are also in question.
The US government fails to view climate change as a result of human activity and rather views climate change as something natural and cyclical.
Is it wise to put our environment in bait to have an abundance of energy resources?
Tell us what do you think about this new bill passing under the Trump administration? In one the world is trying to save the wildlife and forests whereas capitalists are trying to burn them down to ashes for their own benefits.
