A MTR passenger train carrying hundreds of passengers derailed, disrupting two lines near Kowloon and leaving eight injured.
The incident occurred during the morning rush hour, causing major disruption as 500 passengers were evacuated.
One man and four women were hospitalized and the others were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Images reveal how three carriages left the tracks and crisscrossed over rails close to Hung Hom station.
Pro-democracy campaigners in Hong Kong have disrupted the city’s travel network before, but there is no indication of foul play on this occasion. The investigation is ongoing:
“We would not rule out any possibility but at this stage, we won’t speculate on any particular suggestions,” said Frank Chan, the town’s transport chief.
Services between the Hung Hom and Mong Kok East MTR stations were suspended around 8:55am, after an East Rail line train left Mong Kok East station.
