The last Span Of Padma Bridge Settled Down

Bangladesh government has filled thousands of people’s dreams with the last span establishment of the biggest Padma Bridge of its kind in Bangladesh, on Thursday. Puza Snigdha reports.

With the last span Engineers and workers marks the completion of the bridge’s 6.15-km main structure above the water. The structure is on pillars 12 and 13 and each span is 150 meters long, which will connect both sides of the mighty Padma River.

The whole bridge includes 41 spans and according to the Dewan Md Abdul Quader, project manager of Padma Bridge, the 41st span was founded around 12pm. The installation work began around 10am. The structure is now visible from Munshiganj’s Mawa to Shariatpur’s Zajira.

The construction of the main bridge is being done by China Major Bridge Engineering Company and Sino Hydro Corporation of China is carrying out the river management.

The authorities of MBEC said they have paid keen attention on environment protection during building the bridge and they followed guidelines by World Health Organization and Bangladesh’s environmental authorities.

The bridge is being built with 760mm dia Gas Transmission Line, 150mm dia Fiber optical & Telephone Duct, High voltage Electric Line, Platform in River over Pile Foundation at 2km downstream of Main Bridge.

The Padma Bridge project was started in December 2015 with an aim of boosting the country’s gross domestic product by 1.2 percent.

The double-deck Padma Bridge design includes railway through the lower deck and other transport’s road will be on the upper level of the bridge.

The bridge can change the economic landscape of southwestern Bangladesh as it connects South and Southeast Asia which will help to contribute in communication, trade, industry, tourism and many other sectors.

“We are working hard to open the bridge to the commuters with assuring quality,” said Md Shafiqul Islam, project director of Padma Multipurpose Bridge.
