The Forest of Enchantments

Author: Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
This book is a great retelling of the Indian epic The Ramayana but in the voice of Sita. The central character Sita will tell her story in her own voice of her Joys and sorrows, her agony and triumph, her heartbreak and resilience and her understanding of what love is. This book also tells us about other women who are very important but had little role, such as Kaikeyi the second wife of King Dasharath, Surpanakha, sister of Ravana, Mandodari, Ravana’s faithful wife and little Urmila the beloved sister of Sita. This book is an interesting way to know about the lives of women in the Treta Yuga.
