‘The Purge’ was an odd movie with an odd concept: In this futuristic America there’s one day a year when all crime is legal…because reasons? The time has finally come for the prequel to explain how such a ghastly tradition came to be. The focus on a small localised area as an experiment and the people trapped in the middle of the conflict is more of the main point this time, as well as the tactics politicians attempt to make it work. ‘Possibly drawing on the ethical conflict of is it right to join in, but you also have to if you want to survive’ is an angle it usually attempts to follow. You can expect to be entertained if you are a fan of previous instalments.
