Marion “Suge” Knight has been sentenced to 28 years in prison due to the death of a man during a hit-and-run incident while filming the movie “Straight Outta Compton”.
The former rap, 53, was formally sentenced yesterday after pleading “no contest” to a manslaughter charge last month just days before his trial was due to begin.
The victim of the hit-and-run was Terry Carter, who was killed when Knight hit him with his truck. In addition to Carter, Cle “Bone” Sloan was injured after Knight hit the pair with his truck.
On Thursday, eight of Carter’s family members requested the judge in court to impose the maximum 28-year sentence on Knight, according to the Associated Press.
“I wanted justice for my dad and now we’ve finally got it, kind of,” Nekaya Carter said. “My dad can finally rest in peace while you live out the rest of your life in prison.”
The utmost penalty for deliberate homicide in California is 11 years in prison, but that punishment was doubled because of Knight’s prior convictions under the state’s three-strikes law, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said.
