At least 2 people dead after a strong 6.6 magnitude earthquake hits the Southern Philippine Island of Mindanao on Tuesday.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology experts, the quake’s epicenter was located inland, northeast of Tulunan town in Cotabato province, 972km (604 miles) south of Manila.
āThere are no threats of a tsunamiā, Experts added.
The public information office of Magsaysay town in the province quoted that a 15 year old student and a 67 year old male were found dead due to the massive hit of the earthquake.
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio of Davao proponed all the classes in public and private schools.
āThe quake may have caused structural and electrical damage to buildings and housesā added Sara.
A spokesman for President Duterte said, āWe ask our citizens to remain calm but vigilant and we urge them to refrain from spreading disinformation that may cause undue alarm, panic and stress to many people,ā
āThe location is almost the same as the one on Oct. 16,ā said Erlinton Olavere, a research specialist at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
āThere is an existing fault in the area and the movements are still ongoing.ā He added.
On October 16, a 6.3-magnitude quake struck almost the same area and killed seven people.
