Spectacular Display To Raise Awareness of ADHD

Establised in 2007 by Liverpool City Council, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Foundation charity is supporting more than 3,000 families every year and delivering training to over 3,000 professionals, including teachers, nurses and doctors.
To raise awareness of ADHD and autism, this year’s art installation Umbrella Project will launch on June 28 and will run until September with a huge swathe of colour, which will be featured across MediaCityUK at Salford Quays and a busy Liverpool street, Church Alley.
More than 500 brightly colored umbrellas will be displayed transforming working and shopping areas into a canopy of colour. The individual umbrellas have been signed by children signed stating ‘My Super Power is….’, many of whom have ADHD, autism and other neurodevelopment conditions.
The project is sponsored by Equazen, makers of the scientifically developed omega-3 & 6 brain health supplements. The children who have signed the umbrellas are from the Technical College at MediaCityUK and Oakwood Academy in Eccles plus St Sebastian’s and St Cuthbert’s Catholic primary schools, Dovecote Primary School, Clare Mount Specialist Sports College on the Wirral, and Pontville School in Ormskirk.
“The ADHD Foundation Umbrella Project is a really inspirational initiative that Equazen is part of. As a project, it illustrates the complexity and broad spectrum of behavioural issues associated with ADHD and the need for a range of treatment options and support” said Public health nutritionist and advisor to Equazen, Dr Emma Derbyshire.
“We had signals for the effect of omega-3 & 6 supplementation in children with reading difficulties before this, so this is a nice confirmation that it is really doing something in reading,” said the Lead Researcher for the reading trial Dr Mats Johnson. “We were a bit surprised to see this level of effect in mainstream children. This has not been shown before.”
The 12-month trial at the Children’s Hospital of Mexico followed 90 youngsters newly diagnosed with ADHD where the trial data concluded a combination of Equazen.
A 1 month pack of Equazen family contains 60 capsules and costs £8.16.
