FA Wales have confirmed Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs as the new manager of the Dragons. Giggs has secured a four-year contract.
Search for a new manager for the national Welsh team started when previous manager Chris Coleman stepped down to manage Sunderland in the Championship after he failed to get Wales to qualify for this summer’s World Cup.
Ryan Giggs expressed his interest in the role last month when he said “I’ve played for Wales and I’ve said that I want to go back into coaching”. Giggs played for the Welsh team between 1991 and 2007, making 64 senior appearances. He then returned to international briefly to be part of Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics.
The role as Wales manager is Ryan Giggs’ first permanent position in management. He was left in charge of Manchester United for a four-game run after David Moyes’ dismissal. He left Man Utd when Mourinho took over the management in July 2016.
