What> Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi Festival is the celebration of the loving and affectionate bondings of brothers and sister, not just in biological relationship but anyone who feels a brotherly or sisterly bond. The sister ties the traditional thread, bracelets or bands on brother’s wrist that signifies a bond of protection and prayer for their long life while brothers take a vow to protect their sisters and gifts are presented as a symbol of love.

This festival usually associated with Hinduism, but now it becomes a community festival and also celebrated by some Muslims also throughout India, Nepal and Indian origin people living abroad. Usually, it takes place on the full moon day of Shravana Purnima and brings not only brothers and sisters but the whole family together.
The Noble laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore, invoked Raksha Bandhan as a symbol of peace and unity and to inspire love, respect and a vow of mutual protection between Hindus and Muslims during India’s colonial era.
