Queen’s Christmas Speech for Unity and Peace

The Queen’s speech on Christmas Day has become a traditional part and is a unique chance for her Majesty to share her personal thoughts with people in the UK and across the Commonwealth.
The Queen, 92, will say in her Christmas Day broadcast that the Christian message of “peace on earth and goodwill to all” is “needed as much as ever”.
Speaking about the birth of Jesus and the Christmas story, she will reinforce that theme, adding: “I believe his message of peace on Earth and goodwill to all is never out of date.
“It can be heeded by everyone; it’s needed as much as ever.”
In the broadcast, recorded in Buckingham Palace’s white drawing room, the monarch will highlight Jesus’s message often cited at Christmas.
During her address the monarch will also highlight the importance of people with strongly opposing views bridging the gap between one another, by being civil and acting with common decency.
In the message due to be broadcast at 3pm on Christmas Day she will talk about the importance of treating others with consideration.
 
The Queen will say: “Even with the most deeply held differences, treating the other person with respect and as a fellow human being is always a good first step towards greater understanding.”
The palace does not explain the full meaning behind the message, leaving it open to interpretation, but the quotes released show a strong theme of unity and refer to the need to treat others with respect, and it does appear that the queen may be referring to the recent chaos over Brexit and the divisions it has caused.
As head of state, the Queen remains publicly neutral when it comes to political matters and does not express her views on issues.
But some commentators may interpret her words as a veiled reference to the toxic mood of the public debate around Britain leaving the EU.
