American actor, voice artist, and comedian Elmore Rual Torn Jr better knows as Rip Torn who won the Emmy award, has died on Monday afternoon at his home in Lakeville, in the age of 88.
Confirming his death news his publicist said that Torn passed peacefully at his home with his wife and two of his daughters by his side.
Rip Torn was a celebrated wildman actor who had a constant presence on stage and screen since the mid-1950s, when the cameras weren’t rolling
The actor was arguably better known for his weird, and occasionally violent, antics.
“His remarkable career on stage and screen spanned seven decades, ranging from an early career of dark, threatening roles to iconic comedic performances later in life,” said his spokesman in a statement.
His career spanned decades during his Broadway career when he received a Tony Award nomination in 1959.
He appeared on Broadway 10 times, starting with his debut in Elia Kazan’s production of Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth in 1959, in which he starred along Paul Newman and Geraldine Page, whom Torn turned into later married to till her demise in 1987.
Currently Torn was portraying as a talk show producer Artie on The Larry Sanders Show in which he became renowned. He also have the appearances on TV shows 30 Rock and Will & Grace along with film spots in Men in Black, Wonder Boys and others alongside a number of voice roles.
Torn graduated from University of Texas and studied acting before serving in the United States Army.
Torn had six children, among them successful stage actor Angelica Page.
However, authorities did not published any specific reason of hid death yet.
