NTA: Peaky Blinders Won for the “Best Drama” Category

Birmingham-based British crime drama television series, Peaky Blinders which follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family, took home this year’s National Television Awards for producing Best Drama.
The grand ceremony of National Television Award took place at 02 Arena, in London on Tuesday this week where Peaky Blinders beat Casualty and Call The Midwife to win the award.
Created by Steven Knight and produced by Caryn Mandabach Productions, the series which recently wrap up filming it’s fifth season, primarily set in Birmingham, England in the aftermath of World War I.
Last year, The show was nominated in the Best Period Drama category and Cillian Murphy (Tommy Shelby) was up for Best Drama Performance but couldn’t make the win.
Though the win was not surprising but, unfortunately, the facts disappointed the audiences is none of the Peaky team were in the ceremony to pick up the prize last night, instead allowing Dermot O’Leary to relay a message to the audience.
A post on the Peaky Blinders Twitter account confirmed that, the casts starring the likes of Murphy, Tom Hardy, Helen McCrory and Paul Anderson has finished the filming for fifth season.
This year, on January 17, a photo was shared of Cillian Murphy and director Anthony Byrne on the first day of filming several months back, the tweet said: “Tomorrow we wrap filming series 5 of #PeakyBlinders.”
The series, which based on the real time period incident of England, also won BAFTA TV Awards last year on May for best drama.
