Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has defeated South African Kevin Anderson in the Wimbledon finals and is now the new Wimbledon Champ.
Both players made it to the finals after surprise wins in the semi-finals. Many expected to see Switzerland’s Roger Federer and Spain’s Rafael Nadal move on to the next stage, but both Djokovic and Anderson proved to be the better players.
The title was well deserved, as Djokovic and Anderson took to the courts in what can be considered a grueling match. Anderson fought to hold on for the length of the two hour match, however a sore right elbow didn’t help matters. Kevin Anderson faced off for over six hours against John Isner in the semi-finals on Friday, which may have impacted his performance in the finals. While he fought the good fight, in the end, Djokovic came away victorious, with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (3).
