National Blood Cancer Awareness Month

Blood Cancer Awareness Month takes place every year 1-30 Sep to raise awareness of the key issues affecting the 230,000 people in the UK, living with a blood cancer. September was designated as National Blood Cancer Awareness Month in 2010 by the United States Congress.
Supported by some of the UK’s biggest blood cancer charities, including Leukaemiacare and The Anthony Nolan Trust, September is their month to raise awareness of how to improve treatments for blood cancer and increase the number of lives saved.
During September, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is sharing proof of impact; proof that the dedicated efforts of our researchers, volunteers, staff members and supporters are having an impact and making real progress towards achieving the LLS goal to create a world without blood cancers. To do that, on behalf of everyone living with or being treated for a blood cancer, they want to raise $400,000 this month.
Approximately every 3 minutes one person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer. That means that during September, Blood Cancer Awareness Month, more than 14,000 people will informed that they have one of these terrible diseases. Donating money is encouraged to raise awareness and funding for research and patient programs.
The Make Blood Cancer Visible Patient Perspectives Book gathers these stories into a beautiful collection of personal stories shared by individuals affected by blood cancer from across Europe. They hope the sharing of these stories and experiences will help other patients and their family members, carers or friends and anyone can download the book. Together with patients they also produced a short film which highlights the unique journeys that every patient with cancer will face.
MSK scientists are dedicated to improving treatments for all types of blood cancer, including the three most common forms of blood cancer: Leukemia, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and Myeloma. They have also developed a new immunotherapy strategy that trains a patient’s own immune cells to fight leukemia.
