WhatsOn music editor Adam Humphries brings you the latest music of the week. Make sure to add them to your playlist!
Camel Power Club – Eigisyg
The new single by French indie rockers, Camel Power Club, and for something that’s under 4 minutes long this should go onto your playlist. Your indie rock sounds have steady and continuous drumming with some energetic guitar riffs that don’t go too over the top that they go manic. The frontman’s vocals in this are smooth and seem to glide effortlessly through the song. Now if you know about acronyms see if you can spot the one here.
“Everywhere I go I see your ghost”
Chew Magna – 4324
The Mancunian rockers are back with a new sound, and they are just as energized as they ever were. 4324 on the surface sounds like your basic indie rock track but when you listen carefully to the lyrical content within you begin to see that they have been quite clever. Subject matter wise it’s somewhat on the ball as philosophy creeps up as it is about old age thinking but in a more modern world and trying to keep up
“You’re running cos you can’t slow down / You’re running cos there’s time to save / Running cos you figured it out yeah / Running cos you can’t be late.”
Alice SK – Sweet Like Honey
Alice is back and as always; she knows how to make a great heartwarming song. For a song that is just under 3 minutes long, it’s quite an infectious one and certainly one you’ll need to listen to again to appreciate its creativity. Sweet is one of those tracks where the human feeling is right at its center. It’s about wanting to let your guard down with that special someone and show your vulnerable side to them and let them take of you. And who said that sweet love was dead.
“Sing me a lullaby to sleep/cos I’m losing my faith in humanity”
Hannah Schneider – Mirror Sphere
Hannah has released an absolute corker of a song here with her new single, ‘Mirror Sphere’, and it comes from a deep, deep place. Mirror was written during a dark period during the Covid pandemic when all casual human contact was cut down to a bare minimum. For this song, Hannah has taken things right back to the beginning of things and has used sounds reminiscent of 80’s electro-pop and soul. Vocally, her voice is in a similar vein to Kate Bush and Alison Goldfrapp in that it carries emotion without being too dramatic but whilst still wearing her heart on her sleeve.
“It’s been a long day/it’s been a painful time
But my heart is open/my heart is open”
