Michael Moore has made the startling claim that Gwen Stefani was one the reasons Donald Trump ran for president.
The Fahrenheit 11/9 alleged in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday that Trump, 72, was eager to prove his worth to NBC after discovering that Stefani, 48, made more money as a coach on The Voice than he did when he starred on The Apprentice.
Not long after Stefani’s hiring for major ducats, Trump announced his candidacy for president during a high-profile event at Trump Tower. It was his way of showing up NBC, even if he had no intention of winning, so says Moore.
Moore said of Trump, “He’d been talking about running for president since 1998, but he didn’t really want to be president. There’s no penthouse in the White House. And he doesn’t want to live in a black city. He was trying to pit NBC against another network, but it just went off the rails.”
Even before making the documentary Moore wonders about Trump’s presidency and asks, “How the (expletive) did this happen?”, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
