Metallica to Launch Their Own Whiskey Brand

The Heavy Metal band Metallica has teamed up with distiller Dave Pickerell to launch their own brand of whiskey, named after the opening track from 1988’s, which they’re calling ‘Blackened’ and billing.
“San Francisco, the home of Metallica; Louisville, the home of bourbon; and Nashville, the home of music … one of those three seems to make sense,” Pickerell told WhiskyCast. “I’m voting for San Francisco and the Bay Area, if nothing falls apart.”
“I can just say that we’re going to make a killer whiskey product, and probably build a little distillery someplace as well, putting all the logistics together and crashing just as hard as we can,” Pickerell told Whiskycast in an exclusive interview, adding that the rumored venue could very well be built in one of three locations: Louisville, Nashville, or San Francisco.
Danny Wimmer, producer of the Bourbon & Beyond whiskey and music festival, told WhiskyCast that the move will benefit both the music and whiskey industries.
A new website for the whiskey describes Metallica and Pickerell as “unapologetic masters of craft in their respective fields, they’ve built world-renowned legacies by carving out new spaces and bringing their singular, incendiary perspectives to everything they touch.”
This isn’t Metallica’s first foray into the drinks industry as the band has previously teamed up with Budweiser to launch a limited edition branded beer.
Over the years a number of rock and heavy metal bands have released their own drinks brands, including Iron Maiden, Motorhead, ACDC, The Rolling Stones, Tool, and Kiss.
