Liverpool’s Club Cavern May Close Forever: Mayor Warns

Liverpool’s iconic club Cavern may close down forever due to the COVID-19 pandemic, warns the mayor of the town. Puza Snigdha reports.

The Cavern Club is a historic and renowned club located at Mathew Street of Liverpool is facing lifetime closure threat because of the financial crisis, as the venue has been remaining close for long following the pandemic.

The club was hosting ‘The Beatles’ early gigs and became more popular since then but as the venue is close now, loosing £30,000 a week.

Joe Anderson, the mayor of Liverpool has said that the U.K. venues are reopening with reduced attendance and strictly following the social distancing guidelines.

“The prospect of losing a national jewel like The Cavern is a horrible scenario for all concerned, be they Beatles fans, music lovers and above all those whose livelihoods depend on it,” said the mayor.

The Cavern Club has also reopened the door for the socially distanced audience from 15th August but has to face Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund and the club may still shut down as they are in a big loss.

Bill Heckle, the director of the club said that they have opened 30% but they will still lose money and his expectation to the Govt. to do something so that they do not lose money.

The UK Government has a plan of £1.57 billion to help the arts, culture, and heritage industries.
