English rock singer Gary Glitter who was convicted for paedophile, did not get any royalties from his song Rock and Roll Part 2 being used in the new Joker movie.
The record label, a recording studio of London which owns the master recordings of Glitter’s music said it to the reporters. “Glitter won’t receive a penny”.
Gary’s Rock and Roll Part 2 song features in a scene in the new Joker film where Joaquin Phoenix playing the iconic Batman character.
The song is used for two minutes in the film.
Snapper, a London-based label which had purchased the rights to the Glitter’s back catalogue said to LA Times, “Gary Glitter does not get paid. We’ve had no contact with him. People generally come to us. We don’t promote it at all”.
They also said that they do not sell physical copies of Glitter’s songs as they are only available as digital streams and downloads.
After watching the song in the movie many movie lovers were outraged as well as they were more enraged when it was reported that the singer will get hundred thousand of pound in royalties.
Joker won the Golden Lion prize at the Venice film festival and has been a critical and commercial hit, earning nearly $550m worldwide in two weeks.
Universal Music Publishing Group said it was not paying royalties to Glitter.
“Gary Glitter’s publishing interest in the copyright of his songs is owned by UMPG and other parties, therefore UMPG does not pay him any royalties or other considerations.”
In previous, Gary Glitter’s Rock and Roll Part 2 has featured in Hollywood TV shows, movies and many other shows.
Glitter is serving a 16-year jail term for sexual offences against children. He was jailed for four months on child pornography charges in 1999, and for three years in Vietnam after being convicted of child sex offences in 2006.
