Joe Jackson, the father of music legends Michael and Janet Jackson, has died at age 89, his has family said.
The music manager, was admitted to hospital last week in the “final stages of terminal cancer.” He died at 3:30am yesterday (June 27) in a hospice in Las Vegas.
His death comes just two days after the anniversary of his son Michael Jackson’s death nine years ago.
In a statement, Michael Jackson’s estate said: “We are deeply saddened by Mr Jackson’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs Katherine Jackson and the family.
“Joe was a strong man who acknowledged his own imperfections and heroically delivered his sons and daughters from the steel mills of Gary, Indiana to worldwide pop superstardom.”
Jackson’s family have begun to pay tribute on social media. Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris Jackson paid an emotional tribute to her grandfather, revealing they shared his final moments together.
His grandson Taj stated how he treated his children, writing: “Joe was loved by our ENTIRE family and our hearts are in pain. Let us grieve without the nastiness.” Another grandson Randy added: “RIP to the king that made everything possible!!! I love you grandpa.”
