The 20-year-old Irish jockey Mikey Sweeney almost fell off from horse but wins race after his remarkable recovery in spectacular fashion at Killeagh on Sunday and has gone viral
The win soon made headlines all over the world with videos of the recovery picking up several hundred thousand views.”It was a brilliant day, great, a great day for everyone involved,” Sweeney told.
The horse jumped and promptly left Sweeney to hop out over his head, clinging on for dear life while dangling at the side. But somehow, Sweeney dragged himself around the neck, back into the saddle and got a final charge off the horse, winning the race by three lengths.
“I don’t know how I hung on. It was spur of the moment really. It all happened so quick. Maybe there was someone looking down on me. It was unbelievable.
I didn’t expect the reaction one bit. I had to pinch myself really to think anything like that would happen.
“It was a dream come true. You couldn’t make it up. It was fantastic.”
Declan Queally, the hose’s trainer, told that it was “unbelievable” that the horse was able to recover and Sweeny was able to maintain his grip and right himself for the win.
