Saturday Special: In Conversation with Towfique Ahmed

Towfique Ahmed is a rap artist, singer, barrister at law, and a Faculty of Law at AIUB, who is contributing his career in rap for near 12 years, shares his experience and story with Puza Snigdha.

Towfique is into music since his childhood. He started taking tabla lessons because of his family’s insistence. He learned recitation also. But soon he grew up to appreciate his upbringing. His family encouraged him for arts and music from his very early age.

Towfique formed his band titled “Rajotto” Faisal Roddy and released the first album with the same title “Rajotto” in 2010. His second album “Dasotto” released in 2014. Towfique’s single ‘Atto-kothon’ became very popular. Apart from that, he gave his voice in many commercial songs, worked as a model in music videos, acted in a short film “Durbeen” and in a telefilm “Takata Koi?” He has also worked in a film which is set to release in 2021.

The rapper has created his own mark in the music industry. He wants to produce some good music for which he will be proud in his later life, “Yes, I have done something good”.

The artist’s latest song “E Daay Kaar” has picked all the social disturbances that are currently happening every day. Talking about the song, the rapper said, “E Daay Kaar” is a box of questions to myself, to the people that who is responsible for the corruption moral degeneration?”

Currently, Towfique is planning to release his solo series of tracks with video. He prefers to focus on his songs rather than the music video. “I want my listeners to feel the song and create their own visualize relating to the song.”

Talking about his other professions, he said, “Through my songs, I try to put lights on the social norms, corruptions, moral degeneration of the people and society but I cannot change the situation only with my songs. So here comes my law profession which is my power to help the people. I needed a battalion to devote my ideas to people and my teaching profession is helping me on that. It’s a place of my eternal peace.”

For the upcoming artists, his suggestion is “If your conscience is right then just do your things.”

Over the years he has become a living legend and become an inspiration to young rap artists in Bangladesh—he has also been followed by them. Nicely written article which depicted a short but inspiring and enlightening story of Towfique. I am proud of you my brother, my homie, and so on.
