If 2017’s Rainbow was an album that allowed Kesha to heal then High Road lets her show the scars that are left with both pride and ferocity. With law suits firmly behind her one of pop’s most empowered daughters is back to her best with this diverse set of songs.
There’s quite a bit of soul searching going on throughout High Road as if Kesha is laying out much of her past journey like a map with a sense that she now has compass firmly in hand for the first time in many years. You get the impression that she has reconnected with her roots and you can hear her swagger in almost every note. The music is that lovely lively bounce pop that we know and love her for.
There’s also a sophistication not seen or heard before too. Clearly the time out has allowed a focussing of the mind in writing terms. Not many artists would have come back from the trauma that befell Kesha, most would have crumbled. With such a great strength of character and sheer unwillingness to allow herself to disappear this is one artist that has the right to take the high road.
