The energetic first performance of Bad Bunny
After Noah introduced the evening, Bad Bunny took over and instantly established the bar for performances. He brought out some dancers to stand while he performed a portion of the anthem “El Apagón.” As they began their approach to the big stage, he serenaded the crowd with “Despues de la Playa”. As if theperformance cannot be any more exciting, a beach scene, a larger mob of dancers was on the stage. The Dominican Republic and his native Puerto Rico got both mentioned via Bad Bunny.
The words “Singing in Non-English” showed on-screen during his performance. And then spectators with closed captions realized they were hard to follow the Spanish lyrics.

The historic victory of openly transgender lady Kim Petras
For their combined project, “Unholy,” Sam Smith and Kim Petras received a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Petras got the opportunity to receive the prize on their behalf from Smith, who was already a Grammy winner. “I receive this honor since I’m the 1st transgender woman to do so” according to Petras. “I simply would like to appreciate all the amazing transgender icons that opened these doors before me,” she said. She gave Sophie, a Scottish composer and musician who passed away in 2023. A special tribute, saying that Sophie “told me this will occur and always trusted in myself.”

The Grammys focus on the growth of hip-hop
The Recording Academy joined several of the most well-known figures in hip-hop history to commemorate the genre’s 50th anniversary.
