'Glow' Season 2 Trailer: Gorgeous Ladies Deal With Fame

Netflix has released a new trailer for their 1980s wrestling show Glow, also known as gorgeous ladies of female wrestling, based on an actual wrestling show from that period. The action takes place in and out of the ring and the concurrent plot line features the relationship between Ruth (Alison Brie) and her former best friend Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin).
The new trailer suggests that the show is taking on some social issues in this season, most notably sexism and racism. Considering that the show is set about 30 years in the past, social unfairness is a lot more pronounced which means the battle is steeper for the women.
Season 2 sees the female wrestlers in the show-within-a-show become local celebrities, which brings out the weirdo fans. That fame might not last for long. The cancellation is due to a possible men’s wrestling show. While it looks like the group might suffer due to Ruth’s (Allison Brie) refusal to sleep with a man in the business, they are not going down without a fight. “I say we do whatever the hell we want to do,” says Sam (Marc Maron), when the show is threatened. “Set the weirdos free and see what happens.”
Glow was a huge hit on Netflix last year capturing the attention of fans worldwide. Season 1 ended with the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling filming their pilot and getting deal with a network to begin making the women’s wrestling TV show, Glow.
Co-creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch were inspired to write their new Netflix comedy after watching a 2012 documentary on the original Glow. David B McLane created the original one in 1985, but left after the first season following a dispute about the direction of the series.
The second season is set to return on 29 June on Netflix.
