Global Commons and Environment

Global warming doesn’t violate our moral sensibilities. It doesn’t cause our blood to boil because it doesn’t force us to entertain thoughts that we find indecent, impious or repulsive. When people feel insulted or disgusted, they generally do something about it, such as whacking each other over the head, or voting. Moral emotions are the brain’s call to action. Although all human societies have moral rules about food and sex, none has a moral rule about atmospheric chemistry. And so we are outraged about every breach of protocol except Kyoto. Yes, global warming is bad, but it doesn’t make us feel nauseated or angry or disgraced, and thus we don’t feel compelled to rail against it as we do against other momentous threats to our species, such as flag burning. The fact is that if climate change were caused by gay sex, or by the practice of eating kittens, millions of protesters would be massing in the streets (Gilbert 2006)
Global commons in general term means the properties that are for all living in a particular area. If we want to provide easy example, it is in any specific country a piece of land or pond or river that is not for any specific sect of people but it is for the community who lived there. All can use it but the responsibility of all should be using the resources in a sustainable way so that everyone can have the benefits. Global commons are mostly natural resources and it is linked with the environment as well. The global environmental conditions are affecting on the global common properties. Global warming and green house affects results the imbalance in the global common properties like the environment in Blue Oceans.
There are difficulties to defining global commons where the world is consisted with geographically divided land pieces. But in this era of globalization, global commons to me refers the international rivers as well as Oceans. As the rivers or Oceans are not man made but being adversely affected by the human wrong doing the correlation between them should be concerned as global commons. Environment change and climate change are natural process which is described in Milancovitch cycle which holds the idea that changes in the orientation of Earth’s rotation axis and its orbital shape fix the timing of the glaciations by changing the distribution of sunlight on earth. The most important Milankovitch parameter is the amount of sunlight during the summer (July) at 65° N latitude. This is crucial, because if it is not warm enough in July, ice cover may grow. If it is warm enough ice cover can recede. In this way Milankovitch imagined that rather small orbital effects could be amplifies. Manmade climate change induced components are results the misbalance in the natural way of climate change. Because of high rate of CO2 emission Green House effect results the damages in Ozone layers and increasing the rate of global warming.
Antarctica is also considered as global common property that is adversely affected by climate change. The link between environment and global commons are so deep and we can refer them as the two sides of a coin.
