World cup brings up another shocking surprise for football fans with the latest defending champion Germany who crashes out of the world cup in the first round for the first time in 80 years after losing 2-0 against South Korea in their final group game.
Yesterday with a head to head match with South Korea Joachim Low looked stunned as his flops lost 2-0 to exit Group F in bottom place with just one win and three points from three games.
The Germans would need just one goal in the closing minutes on Wednesday to win and secure their place in the round of 16 where they surrendered two goals in added time, to Kim Young-gwon and Son Heung-min and loose their place.
It is the first time Germany have failed to make it out of the group stage since 1938, and the third consecutive time the holders of the World Cup have been knocked out of the group stages.
“We tried to improve and lift our game, but we just couldn’t do it today”, said Toni Kroos, Germany’s star midfielder.
The Germans, who beat Argentina in the final at Brazil 2014, made a horrific start following defeat to Mexico and never recovered.
After the crushing defeat Germany head coach Joachim Low said the holders did not deserve a place in the knockout stages.
“I’m shocked. Shocked because we didn’t manage to pull it off and beat Korea Republic and we lost this game” Said the German Coach, “It wasn’t my impression when I spoke to the team before that they were under pressure before the match because the Sweden game was on at the same time”.
A four-time World Cup winner, Germany was a finalist in 2002, third in 2006 and 2010 and the champion in 2014 after dealing the host nation, Brazil, a 7-1 defeat in the semifinals.
