Fire swept through a building in the French ski resort of Courchevel on Sunday. This accident caused the death of two people. Another 22 people have been injured.
French ski resort which is popular with Britons including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The fire broke out in a three-store block that was used to accommodate young resort workers about 60 in number. The fire forced several residents to jump from windows. Three of the four seriously injured victims were taken by helicopter to the hospital. The bodies of the two killed were found by firefighters in the burned-out building.
The local newspaper, Le Dauphiné, reported that 130 firefighters and five doctors were at the scene. It took more than five hours to bring the situation under control. Officials confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire. Frédéric Loiseau, the local sub-prefect, said it was impossible to say whether the fire had broken out on the second or third floor. Christophe Castaner, the French interior minister, tweeted condolences to the families and friends of the dead and paid tribute to the firefighters who tackled the blaze.
