Netflix has recently shared the first look at ‘Becoming’, a documentary which follows the author and former First Lady, Michelle Obama, as she tours the U.S. for her memoir of the same name. Tara Pilkington reports.
In the first trailer for ‘Becoming‘, which is directed by Nadia Hallgren, we see Obama as she meets with a group of young people in Philadelphia while opening up about the transition from First Lady, to author.
In response to one question, she says: “It takes time to process your life and figure out what it all means.” She also adds that “so much” of who she is was formed before her time in the White House.
In a statement to Netflix, Obama described how the film would focus on her life post-book release: “In groups large and small, young and old, unique and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries, and dreams,”
“We processed the past and imagined a better future. In talking about the idea of ‘becoming,’ many of us dared to say our hopes out loud.”
Becoming, the 2018 memoir which this documentary follows the release of, was one of the best-selling hardcover books of the year, and takes a closer lookat the former First Lady, sharing details of her family lifeandrelationships.
Arriving on 6 May,‘Becoming’ has been created through Michelle and former President Barack Obama’s production company, Higher Ground Productions. It arrives after they previously negotiated a deal with Netflix which would have them creating “high-profile” shows.
