Film Friday: Top 5 movies of the month

This week WhatsOn has listed down the top 5 famous and newly released movies of 2022. So, buckle up with popcorn and watch them this weekend. Pushpita Karim writes.

THE BATMAN

Batman is considered one of the greatest superhero films based on the DC Comics character. Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman was released on 4 Mar 2022. After only a week, on the big screen, the movie marks as the highest-grossing movie of the year, as well as the second-highest-grossing movie since the deadly pandemic started. The film follows the main protagonist Robert Pattinson as teams up with police to solve the puzzles of a mysterious and elusive internet character Paul Dano.

Gangubai Kathiawadi

Based on the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai by S Hussain Zaidi, Gangubai Kathiawadi is partially based on a true story of a sex worker who rises through the gangland ranks of Mumbai in the 1960s. The movie shows a magnetic performance from the lead actress Alia Bhatt. The entire story is turned upside down when Gangubai’s lover sells her to a brothel for money. The movie was released on 25 Feb 2022 directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Turning Red

Turning Red is a Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture’s animated film which was released recently on 11 Mar 2022, on Disney+. The movie is a heartwarming and humorous animated film. It is one of Pixar’s most ambitious films, telling a very personal and relatable story full of imagination. The concept is female companionship, accepting change, and overcoming relationship conflicts.

The Last Mountain Movie

In 2019 record-breaking British climber Tom Ballard disappeared on one of the Himalayas’ most deadly mountains, Nanga Parbat. 25 years earlier and just 100 miles away, his mother Alison Hargreaves, one of the greatest ever female mountaineers, perished on K2. The Last Mountain follows Tom’s sister, Kate, on a trip to Nanga Parbat to say goodbye to her brother.

The Adam Project

The Adam Project is a Shawn Levy-directed American science fiction action film about a pilot who travels back in time and meets his younger self. The movie has been released on 11 Mar 2022, on Netflix which is one of the higher-profile films for Netflix.
