Film Friday: 5 movie selections of the week!

This week, the WhatsOn editorial is back with a list of hilarious movies you can enjoy to liven up your weekend and enjoy spending time with relatives and friends.

1. The Woman King

The Agojie, an all-female warrior troop that guarded the West African kingdom of Dahomey against the 17th to the 19th century, is the subject of the 2022 American historical epic film The Woman King.

The movie, which is set in the 1820s, portrays Viola Davis as a general who prepares the following generation of soldiers to battle their enemy.

The Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states in Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries, served as the inspiration for the historical epic plot of the film.

On September 9, 2022, The Woman King had its worldwide premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. On September 16, 2022, Sony Pictures Releasing put the movie in theaters in the US.

2. ‘X ‘(2022)

Ti West is the author, director, producer, and editor of the 2022 slasher movie X. Starring in it are Scott Mescudi, Jenna Ortega, Martin Henderson, Brittany Snow, Owen Campbell, and Mia Goth.

On the rural Texas property of an elderly couple, a cast and crew meet to shoot a pornographic movie, but they soon find themselves in danger from an unusual assailant.

Filming for X took place mostly at Fordell, New Zealand. The movie had its international premiere on March 13, 2022, at South by Southwest (SXSW), and on March 18, 2022, it hit theaters in the US.

3. The Janes

The Jane Collective, which assisted hundreds of women in getting abortions while they were still forbidden in the late 1960s and early 1970s, is the subject of a documentary from directors Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes that moves swiftly through its narrative.

Police searched a residence on Chicago’s South Side in the spring of 1972. Seven ladies were detained and put on trial. The defendants belonged to an underground network.

They created an underground service for women looking for safe, economical, illegal abortions using code names, blindfolds, and safe houses to safeguard their identities and their work. They went by the name Jane. The movie was released on June 8, 2022 (United States)

4. Goodbye

Vikas Bahl is the author and director of the 2022 Hindi-language family comedy-drama film Goodbye. Amitabh Bachchan, Rashmika Mandanna, and Neena Gupta play supporting parts opposite Sunil Grover in the movie. Rashmika Mandanna is making her Hindi film debut.

A wonderful tale of life, family, and relationships is told in GoodBye. Encloses a family member’s death and brings them together to rediscover a bond they appear to have forgotten. On October 7, 2022, the movie

was released in theaters. Arun Bali, a seasoned actor, makes his final appearance in the movie before passing away on October 7, 2022. Abhishek Khan also makes his film debut.

5. The Ghost

Praveen Sattaru is the writer and director of the action thriller movie The Ghost, which will be released in 2022. As well as Gul Panag, Anikha Surendran, and Nagarjuna, Sonal Chauhan,

The protagonist of the tale is Vikram, a former RAW field agent who is currently employed by the Indian Embassy. He gets a call one day from his sister Anu asking him to look out for her daughter Aditi. Vikram begins to defend Aditi and fights the criminal organization that has been tormenting them.

On October 5, 2022, The Ghost was released in theaters all around the world. Critics gave it poor reviews.
