Film Friday: 5 good films to watch right now!

For this week our film editor, Mark Goddard brings you a list of good movies to watch with your loved ones. Spend the lockdown cuddling with warm coffees and blankets.

All my Life ****

The movie revolves around two newly engaged couples, Jennifer and Solomon Chau. They are ready to start their new life together but things take an unexpected turn when Solomon gets diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. A wedding seems impossible now with everything going wrong. But their friends and family comes together to devise their dream wedding.

This is a perfect holiday movie to watch with loved ones. The acting was excellent and the message was warm and sweet. The story was relatable as we see how unexpected tragedies can upturn a well-planned life. It also teaches us to value the ones around us and get them a little closer at times. Prepare to shed some tears for this one.

Lootcase ****

Directed by Rajesh Krishnan the movie revolves around the story of Nandan played by Kunal Khemu. Nandan is a lower-middle-class man who lives with his wife ( played by Rashika Dugal) and his son struggling to make ends meet. One night he finds a suitcase in a deserted street full of cash. The cash belonged to a wily politician who was delivering it to his high command. Two other notorious gangs and a corrupted police officer get tangled in this mess searching for the suitcase which ended up in Nandan’s hands. What follows is a hilarious journey of comedy and laughter.

Rajesh Krishnan’s Lootcase was a pleasant surprise of a film, very well written with hilarious dialogues. Make sure this movie is added to your watch list for this weekend. It is a fantastic breezy family entertainer!

Wonder Woman 1984 *****

The American superhero film is directed by Patty Jenkins and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, and more. It is a sequel of 2017’s Wonder Woman. Diana ( Gal Gadot) was living a quiet life among the mortals in the 1980s. Soon she finds herself comforting Maxwell lord and the Cheetah, a villainess who possesses super human agility.

This is one of the best DC Comic films made so far. A fantastic sequel of the original Wonder Woman. The film is hopeful. heart-warming and breathtakingly WONDER-ful!

The Midnight Sky *****

The Oscar winning film The Midnight Sky is based on a novel ‘Good Morning, Midnight’ by Lily Brooks-Dalton. Under the direction of George Clooney the science fiction film follows Augustine, a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe.

The film received mixed reviews from critics. It features George Clooney as the leading character, along with Felicity Jones, David Oyelowo, and many more. You can watch it on Netflix & theatres.

Trail of Ashes ***

The mystery and thriller film shows the search for the empress’s daughter reunites two long lost brothers. Growing up on opposite sides of a war and now must choose between family bonds and political alliances.

The film is directed by Arturo Lizardi and stars Héctor Escudero, Cecilia Arguelles, Arturo Lizardi, and more. Trail of Ashes was released in 2020 on December 1.
