Born Free is an international wildlife charity that works tirelessly to ensure all wild animals are treated with compassion and respect.
We are calling for an end to canned hunting – a brutal industry where captive-bred animals are hunted in a confined area from which they cannot escape.
In South Africa, more than 8,000 captive-bred lions are kept in more than 250 breeding facilities, where they are exploited for profit at every stage of their lives.
Captive-bred lion cubs are typically taken from their mother at just a few days old. They will be hand-reared by paying volunteers, used so that tourists can pay to take selfies with them, and when the animals are older, to walk with lions.
Ultimately, many of the lions will then be transferred to canned hunting facilities where paying hunters will kill them in a confined area.
Born Free is wholly opposed to canned hunting and is campaigning to bring an end to this industry once and for all.
