French music star, producer and the founder of the band Cassius who aslo Philippe Zdar has died on Wednesday, in the age of 50 after accidentally falling from a building in Paris.
Zdar fell from a window on a high floor of an apartment block and investigation has been opened into the cause of Zdar’s death.
Confirming his death news to the media his agent said without giving any further detail,
“He made an accidental fall, through the window of a high floor of a Parisian building.”
Zdar is best known for the band “Cassius” he and his co-worker Hubert Blanc-Francard formed in 1988. They produced for bands such as Phoenix, Beastie Boys, Franz Ferdinand and French hip hop star MC Solaar.
The band’s new album “Dreems” is scheduled to be released on Friday. He produced Hot Chip’s latest album, A Bath Full of Ecstasy, also out Friday.
The duo became a staple of the French electronic scene with their first album “1999” released the same year.
In 2010, he received a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album for mixing on Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.
Zdar is survived by his wife, Dyane Cerboneschi, and his three children.A black screen on Instagram without comment has been posted by Zdar’s ex-wife.
People from the music world and also his fans, family are paying tribute to him. Such as, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, DJ Calvin Harris and Rostam Batmanglij, formerly of the band Vampire Weekend.
“The pain is immense. I fell knocked out while standing. All of my thoughts are with you,” wrote Rapper Oxmo Puccino, a former collaborator on Instragram.
“A visionary and tectonic force who shaped the geography of modern dance music,” US DJ The Black Madonna also tweeted condolences.
