Diverse Films will Be Considered for The Best Picture Oscar in 2025

New requirements have been announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that only diverse films will get the best picture award from 2025. Puza Snigdha reports.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on 8th September that the films have to meet at least two of four new diversity standards to get the best movie award from 2025.

The new requirements are set to encourage equitable representation on and off-screen in order to better reflect the diversity of the movie-going audience.

There are total of four benchmarks and at least two of them must have to be followed by the 96th Oscars.

To get the best film nomination the film story’s one of the leading characters must be- woman, L.G.B.T.Q., an underrepresented racial or ethnic group, or those with cognitive or physical disabilities. If not then the film must need to follow the onscreen representation standard along with offscreen creative leadership.

The academy invited additional 819 new members in June, where 45% of them women and 36% of people of color. Now the number has been doubled.
