London City airport and some surrounding streets have been cordoned off after a World War II bomb was found in the Thames river near one of the airport’s runways.
Passengers set to be flying out of London City airport have been told not to travel to the airport as it is currently closed to ensure public safety.
There will be many disruptions to travellers’ journeys as both flights arriving and departing have been cancelled. Passengers have been advised to ring the airlines to ask for further information.
The explosive device was found in the river Thames in East London, an area that was heavily bombed during World War II, during an exploration carried out before works at the airport were to be started.
The airport will reopen once the bomb has been safely removed.
