American film director, screenwriter, and producer John Singleton who is best known for directing ‘Boyz n the Hood’, has died on Monday at the age of 51 which left the entertainment industry in mourn.
According to Singleton’s family he died in Los Angeles, surrounded by family and friends, after being taken off life support. He had been in a coma since an April 17 stroke.
He was the youngest first African American director who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director at the age of 24.
The director was famous for Oscar-nominated “Boyz N the Hood” who continued over the following decades to probe the lives of black communities in his native Los Angeles.
The entire Hollywood is mourning and paying tribute to him.
“Mourning the loss of a collaborator & True Friend John Singleton. He blazed the trail for many young film makers, always remaining true to who he was & where he came from!!! RIP Brother. Gone Way Too Soon!”, said Samuel L. Jackson on Twitter.
“There aren’t many of us out here doing this. It’s a small tribe in the grand scheme of things. He was a giant among us. Kind. Committed. And immensely talented. His films broke ground. His films mattered. He will be missed. And long remembered. Thank you, John. #RunIntoHisArms”, said Ava DuVernay.
