DaDaFest International

Award-winning disability and D/deaf arts organisation DaDaFest announces DaDaFest International will take place from 1 Nov – 8 Dec showcasing artwork. This Event’s vision is to inspire, develop and celebrate talent and excellence in disability and deaf arts. For recognition of disability as a social construct, with over 50 events this year’s festival will be at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Merseyside in Uk.
Through stimulating and supporting excellent disability and Deaf arts from a wide variety of cultural perspectives it will promote and improve the social understanding of disability. DaDaFest uses the arts to educate, challenge attitudes and remove the barriers that restrict life choices for disabled people to live independently.
To explore the concepts of ageing, death and disability, this year’s theme is Passing: What is your legacy?. The theme explores notions created by ‘transpire’ with ‘Passing’ capturing the many different aspects of our life’s journeys.
Comedian Francesca Martinez, theatre-maker and comedian Jess Thom, Stop Gap Dance Company, artists Faith Bebbington, Jonathan Griffith, Simon McKeown and Martin O’Brien, and multi-instrumentalist Sarah Fisher are among the 2018 line-up.
DaDaFest believes that disabled and deaf people are socially, economically and culturally disadvantaged and discriminated against. The arts provide a platform that can be used to challenge the prevalent negative perceptions of disabled people, highlight inequalities and promote socially just alternatives.
Artistic Director for DaDaFest, Ruth Gould says, “The programme includes moments that affirm, celebrate and inform on the very essence of what it is to be disabled, Deaf, young, old as all of us are part of the human race.”
