Cost of Living: Protect the Poorest

Comparatively poor people need more help from the government of the UK during this ongoing cost-of-living crisis. But are they getting the support? No, they are not; the government is doing nothing to protect its people.

The fall

From tomorrow, a 3.1 % profits increase will come into effect. But the experts are saying this would not help much to change the situation. They are expecting inflation to reach 7.7 % by this month.

If it happens, this would be the greatest of all economic falls in the last 50 years. According to a report, the value of unemployment benefits would decrease too.

The horror

For about a decade, the government has been cutting and freezing the benefits. As a result, benefits have lost gradually their value. But it already reached the lowest point. Does the government have any plan to tackle the challenges of the crisis? Apparently, there is no active plan to help the sufferers.

The difference

The benefits show positive growth already. People cannot be happy about the growth because, comparatively, the number is way less than the rising number of the cost-of-living. Since 1972, this the biggest increase in the cost of living.

The worries

A lot of people are already facing despairing circumstances. They are struggling to pay for food, basic heating system, and sanitation products. Some senior citizens are even travelling on buses to keep themselves warm. People who are working as foodbank volunteers are also depending on donations.

The government needs to take some urgent calls to stop the condition to get worse. There is no doubt that the government has failed to support its poor people.

The concern

According to a report, one of the Chancellors expended around £18 billion. But about two-thirds of the amount went to the people who are the wealthiest in the country. It is not that the government has no money but the problem is that they are not spending the money to protect the poorest people of the country.

Workers, with low salaries, are also facing problems during the cost-of-living crisis because of the squeezing of the benefits. If things continue this way, they would face extremely problematic circumstances.

The problem is that a lot of jobs are low-paid, as well as uncertain. Those who are working are also in certainly vulnerable conditions because they are not able to afford the basics. People are even relying on charities for items like toothpaste and toilet rolls.
