Operation Moonshot: Can it stop the second Lockdown in the UK?

Boris Johnson believes a large scale-testing program is the only hope to avoid a second lockdown in the UK. With a hefty budget of over 100 billion pounds designated for this project, experts are worried about how this will be achieved.

Leaked official documents have revealed a plan of PM Boris Johnson to go through a mass testing program in the UK. He believes this is the only way to avoid a second national lockdown as the COVID cases spike high.

‘Operation Moonlight’ project would deliver over 10 million tests a day. However, the plan has met several backlashes from the experts who have pointed out the fact that the current testing regime is already struggling to deliver a fraction of the number that is being expected through the operation.

The technologies that are required to carry out this project do not exist and experts believe that this plan is not feasible to carry on. Moreover, the budget set for this operation is equivalent to the entire education budget of the UK. The hefty budget set for this program which seems to be impossible to impose is highly questioned.

The recent rise in COVID cases around the UK is a matter of huge concern. Difficult times are ahead and strong social distancing measures need to be imposed to tackle this disease. Gatherings have been limited to only six people for now. Critics have accused the government again and again for the incompetence in tackling the pandemic situation.

Boris in a press conference revealed that Operation Moonlight’ is the only chance for the people of the UK to go back to a normal life. The only problem is that the practicality of this is being highly questioned.
