“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” creators are re-writing the season 8 story following the public outcry over George Floyd’s death and Black Lives Matter movement. Puza Snigdha reports.
Following George Floyd’s killing and the subsequent protests against police brutality, the creators of NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine have scrapped pre-written episodes and are re-writing the episodes for the new season 8 in the support of Black Lives Matter movement.
According to series star Terry Crews, showrunner Dan Goor was already four episodes into writing the upcoming eighth season when, in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, he scrapped the work to begin again in a new, more meaningful direction.
Crews said: “We’ve had a lot of sombre talks about it and deep conversations and we hope through this we’re going to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year. We have an opportunity and we plan to use it in the best way possible,”
“Our showrunner Dan Goor, they had four episodes all ready to go and they just threw them in the trash. We have to start over. Right now, we don’t know which direction it’s going to go in.”
The series was renewed for Season 8 back in November last year.
