Nowadays this Black History Month is more than tradition and it’s become a celebration. Lots of movies and documentaries made on this. Here am going to discuss five movies that are based on the theme of black history month. Sanjida Tanmoy reports.
Malcolm X

Malcolm X is a biographical drama film on African-American activist Malcolm X. It was released in 1992. Starred by Denzel Washington, Angela Bassett, Albert Hall, Al Freeman and Delroy Lindo . It was directed and co-written by Spike Lee. It’s the second of Washington and Lee’s four film collaborations. It is based largely on Alex Haley’s 1965 book, The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Warner Bros distributed this film. It was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2021.
Just Mercy

Destin Daniel Cretton co-wrote and directed the 2019 American biographical legal drama film Just Mercy. Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Rob Morgan, Tim Blake Nelson, Rafe Spall, and Brie Larson Featured on this film . It is based on the true incident of Walter McMillian. The film is based on Stevenson’s autobiography of the same title. Pictures distributed it in theaters on December 25, 2019. The picture was well-received by reviewers and grossed $50.4 million. Foxx was nominated for an Academy Award.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is a biographical musical drama film released in 2020. It is based on August Wilson’s 1982 drama of the same name. Viola Davis, Chadwick Boseman, Glynn Turman, Colman Domingo, and Michael Potts feature in the picture. It was first revealed in 2013 alongside Denzel Washington’s Fences as part of his ten-picture HBO agreement. The Netflix adaptation was eventually picked up, and filming began in Pittsburgh in 2019.
One Night in Miami…

One Night in Miami is a 2020 American drama film directed by Regina King. The film is based on a dramatized account of Muhammad Ali and the meeting in a room at the Hampton House to celebrate Ali’s surprise title victory over Sonny Liston. Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, and Leslie Odom Jr. filmd in the key roles, with Lance Reddick, Joaquina Kalukango, Nicolette Robinson, and Beau Bridges rounding out the cast. On September 7, 2020, One Night in Miami made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, a first for an African-American director.
Within Our Gates

Within our Gates is a silent American film directed by Oscar Micheaux in 1920. It depicts the racial situation in the United States during the early twentieth century and also the emergence of the “New Negro.” It belonged to the race film genre. The story follows an African-American woman who travels to the North in order to seek funds for a rural Deep South school for disadvantaged black pupils. Her relationship with a black doctor led to disclosures about her family’s background as well as her own mixed-race European ancestry. The movie depicts racial violence.
Black History Month began as a method to honor significant figures and events in the African movement’s history. Governments in the United States and Canada have given it official acknowledgment. It is also celebrated in Ireland and the United Kingdom in October.
