Big John’s Birmingham Mela in 2022

Tens of thousands of people enjoyed the Big John’s Birmingham Mela 2022 after a three-year postponement due to Covid-19. In one of the biggest UK outdoor festivals of Asian culture, there is an estimated 60,000 people set to attend Cannon Hill Park.

There will be well-known South Asian performers, food stalls, and a bazaar with clothing jewelry, music, and craft stalls. This will be the first time the Mela will be taking place over two days, from 20th August until 21st August, and the seventh time Big John’s will be hosting.

The event director Ambreen Khan said: “This has been a free event for 20 years and although we have a current cost of living crisis, we want to ensure that the Mela can be enjoyed by the public free of charge. This is our opportunity to bring together our communities and give back to our local areas.”

Alongside the performers, there will be up to 20 food businesses selling burgers, ice cream, donuts, Chinese, Pakistani food, and Fish and chips.

There will also be a bazaar area of up to 60 stalls selling children’s toys, ladies fashion, and cosmetics.
