The BBC’s medical drama ‘Trust Me’ is coming back to our screens – but its star Jodie Whittaker won’t be returning. The original series, which aired last August with six millions viewers, saw the actress playing a nurse who, after losing her job, steals her best friend’s identity and poses as a senior doctor. The second season will feature an entirely new cast and storyline.
The new series, once again four episodes long, will be set on the neurological ward of South Lothian Hospital in Edinburgh. It will follow a gentleman by the name of Captain James (Jamie) McKay, “the sole survivor of a shock enemy attack on tour in Syria. Recovering from a spinal injury which has left him barely able to move and battling the psychological scars from losing his friends, he faces a new enemy as people on the ward die unexpectedly around him. But is the threat real, or imagined?”, describes BBC One.
BBC drama controller Piers Wenger said: “The first series of ‘Trust Me’ broke new ground for medical drama and I’m delighted to be welcoming it back for a second run with a completely fresh cast and a shocking new story, which is set to become as big a talking point as the first”. The series will once again be written by former NHS doctor Dan Sefton, who said he was “absolutely thrilled to be working on a new series of Trust Me for the BBC”.
Filming is expected to begin later this year, so expect some casting news soon. Meanwhile, Trust Me’s former leading lady Jodie Whittaker will be travelling through space and time for Doctor Who’s 11th series.
