Good news everyone – Avril Lavigne is back!
The globally recognised starlet, who has sold more than 40 million albums and has 8 Grammy nominations under her belt, has released a new song called ‘Head Above Water’.
This track comes after a 5 year break from Avril, so her latest offering has been hotly anticipated by her loyal fan-base.
On her social media account the superstar penned a heartfelt letter to her band of supporters before the release of her new song.
‘Head Above Water’ is a particularly special track because it offers an insight into the life of Avril and her widely reported battle with Lyme Disease.
The artist co-wrote the intimate song, which really shows off her powerhouse vocals, and expresses the emotional struggle that she has had to contend with.
“One night, I thought I was dying, and I had accepted that I was going to die,” she explained. “My mom laid with me in bed and held me. I felt like I was drowning. Under my breath, I prayed ‘God, please help to keep my head above the water.’
“In that moment, the song writing of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.”
In addition to the music, Avril is raising awareness of the disease in other ways. With the work of The Avril Lavigne Foundation she is enable to get her message across and provide funding, education and encouragement with strategic projects and dedicated grants.
Avril is striving to assist those directly affected and who would not be able to afford the cost of treatment without support. She has recently launched a charitable t-shirt campaign developed purposefully to raise funds for those affected by Lyme Disease.
